Three days is the right length for a romantic NYC trip — long enough to build memories, short enough that you'll want to come back.
**DAY 1 — Manhattan Classics & A Proper First Dinner**
Afternoon arrival. Drop your bags at the hotel. Walk Central Park together — enter at 59th and 5th, walk north, see the Mall (tree-lined promenade), Bethesda Terrace, the Bow Bridge. Top of the Rock at sunset (book tickets in advance). Dinner at Gramercy Tavern, The Modern, or Carbone for the classic Italian-American date-night splurge. After dinner: cocktails at The Campbell (in Grand Central — old railroad baron's office, immaculate).
**DAY 2 — Downtown Romance**
Morning: Sleep in. Late breakfast at Balthazar in SoHo. Walk the West Village — Bleecker Street shopping, Magnolia Bakery, Grove Street strolling. Stop at Murray's Cheese for a counter snack.
Afternoon: Walk the High Line south to north. Stop at the Whitney Museum at the south end or just enjoy the stroll. Late lunch at Chelsea Market (Los Tacos No. 1 is the play).
Evening: Dinner and jazz. Dinner at Carbone (Italian) or Buvette (Parisian bistro). Jazz at the Village Vanguard — the 10:30 set is the romantic one. Reserve in advance.
**DAY 3 — Brooklyn & A Slower Morning**
Morning: Brunch at Cafe Mogador or Jack's Wife Freda. Take a NYC Ferry from the East River pier to DUMBO — the ride itself is a date. Walk DUMBO and Brooklyn Bridge Park together. Take the walking Brooklyn Bridge back to Manhattan (one-way is plenty).
Afternoon: The Morgan Library if rainy; Washington Square Park people-watching if sunny. Cocktails at Please Don't Tell (book 30 days in advance) — the phone-booth entrance is the photo your partner will show everyone.
Evening: Goodbye dinner somewhere unforgettable. Lucali in Brooklyn (BYOB, candlelit, 2-hour wait, worth every minute). Or Le Coucou (French, Michelin-starred, show-off good).
**Notes:** Book the Village Vanguard, Lucali, Top of the Rock, and PDT in advance. They all sell out.
