Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass — cobblestones, the most photographed street in New York, and the best-looking pizza in Brooklyn.

DUMBO fits in about eight square blocks between the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge. It was a warehouse district until the 1990s. Today it's an Instagram cliche — specifically, the exact spot on Washington Street where the Manhattan Bridge frames the Empire State Building in perfect alignment. You will see 30 people photographing that view at any given moment. Take the photo anyway; it is genuinely striking.

**Walk:** Start at Brooklyn Bridge Park and walk up Main Street. Swing right onto Water Street, then Plymouth Street for the cobblestones and preserved brick warehouses. Empire Stores is a beautifully restored complex with shops and a rooftop. Jane's Carousel is a restored 1922 wooden carousel in a glass pavilion right on the water.

**What makes it special:** It's small enough to see in an hour, and the density of visual beauty is ridiculous. The Brooklyn Bridge walkway ends right here — so after the classic bridge walk from Manhattan, DUMBO is your reward.

**Eat & drink:** Juliana's Pizza (by the pizza legend Patsy Grimaldi, a few doors from the original Grimaldi's), Jacques Torres Chocolate, Almondine Bakery, Vinegar Hill House.
