85 acres of reclaimed waterfront running under the Brooklyn Bridge — with the best Manhattan skyline view in all of New York.
Twenty years ago this was a derelict shipping pier. Now it's the view every New Yorker secretly thinks is the best in the city: Lower Manhattan rising across the East River, the Statue of Liberty in the distance, and the Brooklyn Bridge stretching overhead like a cathedral.
Pier 1 is the postcard shot — rolling lawns, wildflower meadows, the Jane's Carousel glowing at dusk. Pier 6 has the kids' playgrounds (six themed ones, all different). Pier 5 is where you rent kayaks and paddle the harbor for free on summer weekends.
**Local tip:** Walk the full length north-to-south — it takes about 40 minutes and you hit all six piers, the Empire Stores historic warehouses, and DUMBO's cobblestone streets. End at Pier 6 and grab the NYC Ferry for an unforgettable ride back to Manhattan.
**Best for:** Sunset walks, families with kids, picnics, photographers. Free summer movies on Pier 1 every Thursday in July and August.
